Dr. Capoccia: A Kansas City UrologistSeptember 13, 2022
Whether you’re male or female, the urinary tract plays an important role in your overall health and well-being. If you experience any changes in urination habits, like frequent trips to the bathroom or blood in your urine, it could be an indication of problems with the urinary tract and may require the expertise of a Kansas City urologist. A KC urologist can diagnose your condition and offer treatment options that will reduce discomfort and help improve your quality of life.
I was born and raised in Kansas City and now I’m a Urologist in the city too! I attended the University of Kansas for my undergraduate education, majored in human biology, and completed my medical school training at the University of Kansas. After medical school, I moved to Miami to train as a Urologic Surgeon before moving back to KC last year so that I could be closer to family.
I know how important it is for patients to have an understanding of their condition and what treatments are available for them. That’s why as part of my job, I not only treat conditions but teach patients about them too! I’m excited to see what we can do together towards getting you feeling better and improve your quality of life!
How Did I Get Into Urology?
I was introduced to urology when I took a clerkship at my medical school during my third year. My day consisted of two 12-hour shifts performing surgery in the operating room and helping with consultations in the clinic. After my clerkship, I knew that urology was what I wanted to do as a career.
What Does A Typical Day Look Like For Me?
A typical day for me would be checking in at the office and catching up on the last day’s work that I did not finish before leaving the office the night before. Next, I’ll greet any new patients who have been scheduled to come in that day and listen to their medical history as well as talk with them about some possible surgical solutions to help alleviate their symptoms or discomfort. Finally, I’ll head back into my office and prepare for my next patient by completing a thorough exam of any symptom area they present with as well as make an educated decision on what surgical procedure may be best suited to help alleviate their symptoms or discomfort depending on where they live, availability of insurance coverage, financial goals, age and any other information provided by them during our visit.
Favorite Local Places:
Empowering and Inspiring Kids, a non-profit providing after-school care for kids ages 8-12, is one of Dr. Capoccia’s favorite places in the city where he enjoys volunteering his time with them at various activities to help grow their interest in STEM careers. The Plaza Jewish Community Center, another favorite place of Dr. Capoccia’s, provides outstanding programs in music and dance to the KC community and has so much to offer it’s hard not to get involved! Kansas City libraries are known throughout the country as great reading destinations, but what most people don’t know is that they have a ton of events for adults such as cooking classes and book clubs! My Favorite Thing About Being A Urologist Is…
Being a urologist has so many benefits! I get to see patients from all over the world and teach other doctors about new advancements in the field of urology. Plus, because people are living longer these days, they end up needing different types of care as they age. One of my favorite things about this job is that I get to see patients grow old with dignity and be a part of something very human: their lives.
